In 1982, the face of the Quebec Steel Market was dramatically changed. The larger Service centers took their volume prices, leveraged with the steel mills, directly to market in order to expand their market share. This left little opportunity for the small and medium size service centers to remain competitive.
In 1984, six steel service centers decided to create an association. Despite being competitors, they realized the benefits of joining forces for a common goal.
The goal was to create an independent entity that would negotiate pricing for the combined steel volume of the six service centers.
As a result, Aciers Transbec was created.
Since its creation, Aciers Transbec has grown to be a distinguished customer to steel mills all over the world and has allowed its members to grow and remain competitive in ever changing markets.
